Berberis Bagatelle, commonly known as Japanese Barberry is a compact, bushy deciduous shrub of rounded habit, with purple/red wine coloured leaves, which become a shade brighter in autumn. A great plant which contrasts with light coloured foliage well when planted together.This Berberis in March and April produces straw like yellow small flowers followed closely by these bright, glossy red berries in autumn. The reddish-purple leaves, which are heavily marbled with pink and white, are perhaps the most striking feature of this deciduous shrub. It does however also produce small, red-tinted, pale yellow flowers in mid to late spring and later in the year, glossy red berries.
