  • "An easy to grow, unusual vegetable with a unique gourmet flavour. A hint of asparagus - perhaps? Asparagus Pea goes with virtually any dish. Cook whole at 3cm (1in) long, preferably by steaming, and serve with a little melted butter. No flavouring should be used as this will destroy its own delicious taste.Asparagus Pea can also be used in the flower border as attractive ground cover."Sow seeds under glass in pots in early spring or outdoors in late spring. Under glass sow seeds individually in 7.5cm (3in) pots in a good seed compost. Germination usually 7-14 days at 19-21C (65-70F).Harden off and plant out 3cm (12in) apart when all risk of frost is gone. Sow outdoors 1cm (4in) apart in well raked soil in rows 3cm (12in) apart. A little twiggy support will help but is not essential. They prefer a good well drained garden soil and Pick pods regularly while young and tender. Don't allow them to get more than 3cm (1 in) long. Their brick red pea-like flowers make them a very attractive pot-plant indoors in a well lit position, or border edgings outside.

Keep ground weed free, water well during dry periods.Harvest 6-8 weeks after sowing, selecting a few leaves from each plant.
  • A very fragrant selection and distinct improvement over other Thai Basils. Basil Siam Queen has an extra large leaf size and large plants mean more of that intense liquorice fragrance. The bright green leaves make an attractive foil for the purple-red stems which bear violet-pink flowers. Basil Siam Queen is superb as a container plant on the patio where you can smell its aroma. Excellent for bedding edging and the vegetable or flower garden. Height 20-30cm (8-12in).Sow seeds 1.5mm (1/16in) deep in good seed sowing compost from Late February to late April. Germination takes 7-14 days at 65-70F (18-20C).When large enough to handle transplant the seedlings to boxes or 7.5cm (3in) pots and when well grown gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions. Plant out in May after all risk of frost has passed 3cm (12in) apart in full sun and well drained soil. FSave one or two plants to grow indoors on a sunny windowsill. Pick the leaves anytime for fresh use; for drying pick as the flowers start to open.
  • New British breeding for a 100% all purple leaved type with increased vigour and uniformity, and traditional cupped Genovese shaped leaves. An excellent ornamental edible, ideal grown on the windowsill, or in containers or baskets outdoors in the summer.Sow seed on the surface of good, free-draining seed compost. Cover with a fine sprinkling of vermiculite. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a polythene bag and place at 20-25C (68-77F) until after germination which takes 14-21 days. Do not exclude light, as this helps germination. Keep compost barely moist until seedlings emerge to avoid stem rots.Transplant when large enough to handle into 7.5cm (3in) pots. Grow on in cooler conditions for a few days before planting out after risk of frost, 30cm (12in) apart, or into containers.
  • (White Seeded). Perfect for early sowings in February, as this variety shows excellent tolerance to cold weather. Broad Bean Witkiem produces a good crop of plump, well-filled pods with big tasty beans which will be ready to harvest in June. Recommended for home freezing. Broad Bean Witkiem can also be sown successionally through to May. Height: 100cm (40 inches).Ideally sow seeds in double rows, 5cm (2in) deep in well prepared soil, 20-23cm (8-9in) apart both in the row and between each row. Allow at least 60cm (24in) between each double row. Germination takes about 10 days.Support the plants as they grow by placing a cane or stout stick at each corner and tying in with string, especially in windy sites. Keep well watered especially when flowering and as pods set. Pinch out growing tip once pods have set to help deter blackfly. Pick regularly as the pods swell and the beans are tasty, soft and tender, and to promote further pod production.

Broad Bean Crimson Flowered is ideal for growing in containers as well as in the garden, or as an ornamental edible in the flower border.Sow seeds from February to May outdoors.   • Extremely high yielding and produces uniform, straight yellow beans around 13cm (5in) long that are neatly distributed on the outside of the plant, making them easy to pick. These delicious beans retain their colour when cooked. Cover seeds with 4cm (2in) of compost. Alternatively, sow directly into prepared, warm, moist soil at a depth of 5cm (2in), thinning as necessary to 20cm (8in) between plants. Allow 60cm between rows. Grows best in a sunny position.Hoe/weed between plants often and water regularly. Provide a compost mulch around the base to combat dry periods.   • The world’s first purple podded ‘daisy type’ French bean! This unique variety will certainly add some colour to your vegetable plot - the slender pods are borne on dark stems against a mass of healthy dark green foliage. The bright purple flowers are particularly attractive, making this a superb ornamental-edible for the patio. Harvested regularly, dwarf French bean ‘Mistik’ will crop throughout the summer from June right through to October.SOWING INSTRUCTIONS: Sow bean seeds at a depth of 5cm (2in) in 7.5cm (3in) pots or trays of free-draining, seed sowing compost. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a polythene bag at a temperature of 12-25°C (54-77°F) until germination, which takes 7-10 days. Do not exclude light as this helps germination.GROWING ON: Once germinated, grow on in cooler conditions until all risk of frost has passed and the dwarf French bean plants are large enough to be transplanted. Gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days before planting French beans outdoors in rich fertile, well drained soil in full sun with protection from strong winds. Alternatively direct sow dwarf green beans outdoors when the soil as warmed. Sow 2 bean seeds per station at a depth of 5cm (2in) and a distance of 23cm (9in) apart. Plant dwarf beans in rows that are 45cm (18in) apart.
  • The small but flavoursome beans are the best option for freezer storage, being far less prone to discolouring than larger varieties. Oscar pods can also be picked before filling out and treated as a mangetout pea, but to get the most from your broad bean crop allow pods to fill and pick whilst young and tender. Compact plants with upright pods grow well in patio containers and stand well in open ground with no supports.Sow seed 5cm (2in) deep into well-prepared soil. Sow double rows, allowing 23cm (9in) between plants and 30cm (12in) between each row. The growing season can be extended by sowing under cloches.Pinch out the tips of the plants when in full flower to help the pods swell and to help reduce infestation of blackfly. Pick frequently when pods are well-filled but still tender.
