Carpinus or Hornbeam are native, attractive and easily grown trees. Suitable for heavy, wet, or chalky soils.Has a variety of uses including hedging, topiary and pleaching. The trunk is grey fluted with ovate and serrated, ribbed leaves turning yellow in autumn and later turning brown. Green catkins open in late spring followed by clusters of winged nuts in the autumn. Sorbus vilmorinii ‘Pink Charm’ is a small, deciduous tree with arching branches, and feathery, compound, green leaves, that turn gold in autumn.
