This Japanese Spindle or Wintercreeper variety is a small, bushy, evergreen shrub, but will climb if planted against a wall. Its ovate, glossy, variegated leaves have emerald green centres and creamy white margins, becoming tinged with pink in winter. Great for providing winter interest. Great as hedging, or plant in any good garden soil, avoiding wet areas.Sun or part shade in fertile, moist but well-drained soil or potting compost. Plant at same depth as pot and gently firm and surrounding soil. Tubs plants will need watering regularly, especially if dry and windy. Border plants need regular watering until established. Known as the partridge berry or checkerberry, this dwarf evergreen creeping shrub grows to a maximum height of just 30cm. From June to August it produces fragrant and dainty white bell-shaped flowers often blushed pink with yellow veining. After flowering, gorgeous bright pink-red berries are produced in abundance, contrasting against the shiny deep green foliage. This shrub is ideal for attracting birds to the garden and with winter around the corner they'll appreciate it more than ever. We'd recommend planting in a shaded or partially shaded spot in the border or rockery.
