  • Early to flower and set fruit, this chili boasts a unique flavour - tart and citrusy like a lemon, but with the heat of a cayenne. Branching plants are of medium height (45cm) and produce plenty of pendulous, tender-skinned fruits, 5-6cm long, which turn from green to yellow as they ripen.Place seed on the surface of a free-draining compost and cover with a fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Place in a propagator at 25-30?C (77-86?F) for up to 30 days. Reduce to 20?C (68?F) once germinated and maintain a minimum of 15?C (59?F) after pricking out. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into 7.5cm (3in) pots.For Indoor Crops: Plant 2 plants per growbag or individually into 20cm (8in) pots or 2 litre pots. Plant height up to 45cm (18n) with a branching habit. For Outdoor Crops: Gradually acclimatise plants to outdoor conditions for 10-15 days before planting 30cm (8in) or 2 litre pot, or a larger container on the patio. Plant in final situation from early June once frost risk has passed and protect from biting winds. Feed plants weekly with a high potash tomato fertiliser once first fruits have set.
  • This is a reliable outdoor trailing cucumber variety, producing large yields of 20cm (8in) long, dark-skinned fruits from July when harvested regularly. Plants show some resistance to powdery and downy mildew. Do not remove the male flowers.Sow seed 1cm (½in) deep in 7.5cm (3in) pots of free-draining compost. Place pots in a propagator or seal in a polythene bag and keep at 21-25?C (70-77?F) until after germination which usually takes 7-10 days.Gradually acclimatise plants to outdoor conditions for a few days before planting out 1m (3ft) apart after all risk of frost is gone. Do not remove the male flowers. Best grown outdoors to trail on the soil. Pick fruits regularly when small to ensure continuous cropping. Feed and water regularly for increased yields.
  • The ideal leek for extra hardiness in winter, Leek ‘Blauwgroene Herfst- Murcia’ is a variety that can be harvested from October through to January. For best results, plant out from mid-June to mid-July and earth up from late August to help to increase the length of the tasty stems.Sow indoors 4-5 seeds in 5cm (2in) pots or used vending cups, or very thinly in a seed tray of good quality seed compost. Cover with 6mm (¼in) of vermiculite or compost, and maintain at a temperature of 15-20°C (59-68°F) until germination. Outside, sow thinly, 1cm (½in) deep in drills 30cm (12in) apart in soil which has been raked to a fine tilth.Carefully lift when plants are large enough to handle and transplant from mid-June to mid-July to 23-25cm (9-10in) apart in the row and 45cm (18in) between rows, using a trowel or dibber, and water in. Keep watered during dry weather. Earth up the stems during the growing season to increase the length of the blanched stem.
  • Early-maturing onion varieties with attractive skin colours and elliptical shapes. Both varieties in the mix have good storage potential. This type of onion is a favourite with cooks and chefs as it slices uniformly, making perfect onion rings for a variety of different dishes.Sow seed indoors in individual pots or a seed tray at a depth of 6mm (¼in) using free-draining, seed-sowing compost. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a polythene bag at a temperature of 15-20°C (59-68°F) until after germination which usually takes 10-12 days. Once germinated, grow on at a temperature of 10-15°C (50-59°F) until all risk of frost has passed and plants are large enough to plant outdoors at a distance of 10cm (4in) apart. Cover with a protective netting or fleece to prevent attack from birds and insects. Water thoroughly after planting and as bulbs swell.Alternatively, sow thinly outdoors from mid-March to mid-April at a depth of 1cm (½in) and a distance of 30cm (12in) between rows.
  • Enjoy this versatile and increasingly popular vegetable as salad leaves when young, or when more mature, the leaves can be steamed and used like spinach. The broad, white stems can be chopped and cooked like celery or used to add crunch to salads and stir fries.Sow seed thinly, 1cm (½in) deep in drills 30cm (12in) apart. Sow ‘little and often’ for a continuous supply. Cloche later sowings for harvesting into December.Thin seedlings to 23cm (9in) apart for ‘midi’ plants or 30cm (12in) for mature plants. Thinnings are suitable for using in salads. Water summer sowings regularly to prevent bolting (running to seed). Harvest stems as required, picking only a few from each plant at a time.

For best results turnips should be grown quickly, help to achieve this by watering well at all stages. Harvest when still medium size for the best flavour. Lift mature roots as required, roots can be lifted and stored for use overwinter from the later sowings
  • Zombie might be the ugliest, scariest pumpkin you’ve ever seen! Plants have a trailing habit, producing 2-3 warty fruits of 3-4kg (6.5-8.5 lbs) each which will ripen during September and store until October ready for Halloween decoration - you hardly need to carve them, they’re pretty scary already!Sow seeds on their sides in small 7.5cm (3in) pots of seed compost at a depth of about 2.5cm (1in). Place them in a propagator or seal the pots inside a polythene bag at a temperature of 20°C (68°F) until germination, which takes 5-7 days. Once germinated, grow plants on for about 4 weeks until they are large enough to be transplanted outdoors.Gradually acclimatise over 7-10 days before transplanting into warm, well-drained, humus-rich soil in full sun, with shelter from winds. Choose a spot that receives at least 6 hours of direct sun per day and prepare the soil in advance, adding plenty of well-rotted manure or compost. Plant at a minimum of 120cm (4ft) apart between plants. Pile the soil into mounds about 15cm (6in) high. Plant each pumpkin plant on top of a mound to ensure good drainage and keep them well watered until they are established. Feed with a general fertiliser a few weeks after planting.
