Aucuba japonica ‘Crotonifolia’ is a versatile evergreen shrub suitable for almost anywhere in the garden. Slow-growing, it will only reach 1.8m after 10 years if left unpruned.Like all aucuba varieties, ‘Crotonifolia’ will grow in shade, although its gold-blotched and finely-speckled leaves colour best in full sun. It thrives in most soils, including dry ground near hedges and trees. Berberis Bagatelle, commonly known as Japanese Barberry is a compact, bushy deciduous shrub of rounded habit, with purple/red wine coloured leaves, which become a shade brighter in autumn. A great plant which contrasts with light coloured foliage well when planted together.This Berberis in March and April produces straw like yellow small flowers followed closely by these bright, glossy red berries in autumn. The reddish-purple leaves, which are heavily marbled with pink and white, are perhaps the most striking feature of this deciduous shrub. It does however also produce small, red-tinted, pale yellow flowers in mid to late spring and later in the year, glossy red berries. Boxwood (Buxus) is a very hardy plant and grows rapidly as well. These great characteristics make it a good tree to use as bonsai. Boxwood has more than 70 species and the common boxwood is the most popular. This is highly used as an ornamental plant and is grown and shaped into a variety of designs.With care this species can be kept indoors. Mist spraying and a cool room are recommended.If cool environments such as shaded porches, conservatories and sun rooms can be provided, they likelihood of success is increased. These may be too hot in summer, when the tree should be moved outside.The tree performs very well outside but does need protection in winter.Sold in a 15cm pot.
