Carpinus or Hornbeam are native, attractive and easily grown trees. Suitable for heavy, wet, or chalky soils.Has a variety of uses including hedging, topiary and pleaching. The trunk is grey fluted with ovate and serrated, ribbed leaves turning yellow in autumn and later turning brown. Green catkins open in late spring followed by clusters of winged nuts in the autumn. Cornus florida also known as North American Flowering Dogwood is small bushy tree with dark green, oval foliage turning a richly coloured red and purple in autumn. In May, clusters of small, green flowers are surrounded by conspicuous white or pink bracts, followed by rounded, orange-red fruit. The hard wood is extremely shock-resistant and useful for making weaving-shuttles. It is also made into spools, small pulleys, mallet heads, and jeweller’s blocks. A stunning typical eucalyptus, this tree is tall and slender, with almost blue young foliage, turning to grey-green in adulthood. Commonly known as the Tasmanian Cider Tree, this gum is evergreen, and will reach almost a 12m height, in a conical shape.
