  • Vitax Garden Lime, supplied in a virtually dust-free granular form, is an excellent conditioner for all types of soil and is also an important source for added calcium and magnesium.It improves the drainage of heavy clay soils, making them more friable and easier to work. It can also be used as an Autumn top dressing on lawns.Vitax Garden Lime can be applied to acid soils on an annual basis after September and to normal soils every two to three years. It can also be added to compost when specified in the mix
  • A rich, fast acting source of nitrogen which promotes above-the-ground growth and rich, green foliage. Vitax Sulphate of Ammonia is particularly beneficial in leafy vegetable and salad crops such as brassicas, lettuce, spinach, rhubarb and leek.An early feed also gives flowering plants, shrubs and fruit an extra boost and will quickly ‘green-up’ a tired lawn.It can be applied at the recommended rates throughout the growing season. Simply spread evenly and hoe or fork into the top surface of the soil. Water-in during dry conditions.

Grow on, finally planting into large pots, or direct into a greenhouse border; or outdoors 45cm (18in) apart when the risk of frost has passed. Support with cane and remove side shoots regularly. Feed regularly with tomato food.

Expert's Tip: Once established, hyacinthoides will spread rapdily.Bulbs grown from cultivated stock. Harmful if eaten.
  • This ready-to-use ant and crawling insect killer is supplied in a convenient and easy-to-use aerosol.Fast acting with rapid effect on contact, it can used as a direct treatment or as a residual treatment on surfaces. It will remain effective for up to 8 weeks on non-absorbent surfaces.
  • A vigorous plant habit and excellent powdery mildew resistance makes this a reliable variety for the home gardener. ‘Bella’ produces good crops of bitter-free fruits of about 35cm (14in) in length with that true cucumber taste often missing in shop-bought fruits.Sow 1cm deep, in 7cm (3in) pots of free-draining compost. Place in a propagator and keep at a temperature of around 20-25C (68-77F) until germination, usually 5-7 days.When first true leaves develop, transplant into 13cm (5in) pots. Finally, plant into 25cm (10in) pots or into growbags. Grow on at a minimum of 15C (59F). Train along wire, allowing the main shoot to reach the tip.
  • This special fertiliser helps correct iron deficiency and prevent yellowing of leaves, promoting healthy foliage and intense flower colour. Plants grow best in a bed that has been manured the autumn before and the ground should be firmed after planting to ensure firm buttons. Pick sprouts from the bottom of the plant and work your way upwards. Cover with netting to prevent damage from pigeons.

Not only will these add interest to your greenhouse, they look amazing when cooked as well.Sow in a propagator on a windowsill or in a greenhouse at approximately 15-20°C (60-68°F) using a good quality, finely sieved, moist seed compost.Transplant seedlings into individual 7.5cm (3in) pots when large enough to handle. Plant in final growing position with 45cm (18in) between plants or into 30cm (12in) pots add canes/string to support plants as they grow. Best harvested when the fruit are still shiny and tender.
